FSSAI Laboratory & Sample Analysis Amendment Regulations, 2026: What Food Businesses Need to Know
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Laboratory and Sample Analysis) Amendment Regulations, 2026, introducing important changes to food sample analysis timelines, analytical methods and laboratory testing report formats.
Published on 18 September 2026, the amendment updates the existing Laboratory and Sample Analysis Regulations, 2011. The revised requirements are scheduled to come into force on 1 April 2027, giving food businesses, food testing laboratories, Food Analysts and importers time to review their testing and compliance processes.

1. Defined Timelines for Sample Analysis
The amendment specifies timelines for regulatory and import sample analysis:
- Regulatory samples: Reports within 14 days.
- Import samples: Analysis reports within 5 days of sample receipt.
Laboratories unable to meet the prescribed timelines must provide written reasons to the relevant authorities
